Going Public: How We Instilled a Listed Company Culture, Before and Beyond IPO

Our client, a mid-cap consumer goods company, was at a pivotal juncture in its corporate journey. Held by two private equity firms exploring exit strategies, including the possibility of an Initial Public Offering, the company had previously issued high-yield bonds. We were brought in as the outsourced Investor Relations department to instil a listed company culture from the outset.

We undertook comprehensive pre-IPO preparations, aligning work streams with key transaction milestones. Our activities included providing IR counsel, coordinating an IPO communications plan, conducting presentation coaching and rehearsals, developing the website, and overseeing market and sector surveillance. Post-IPO, we implemented a robust IR programme to capitalise on the IPO’s momentum. This involved supporting earnings announcements, developing messaging, engaging with capital markets, conducting market surveillance and reporting to the Board.

Embedding processes and best practices ensured a seamless transition and sustained success post-IPO. Key aspects of our approach included implementing a departmental structure, developing a long-term reporting framework and group-wide disclosure policy, and consolidating and centralising all investor materials. We also coached key executives on managing expectations and building relationships with various audiences, creating a well-oiled machine within the IR, Finance and Management teams.
