Communicating the Pathway to Carbon Neutrality

Our client, an automotive supplier, welcomed a new CEO and executive team, including a new Head of Sustainability. They were embarking on an energy transition journey with sustainability at the heart of their business strategy. To kick-start this change, they planned an investor event before their first-ever Capital Markets Day. The event was designed to unveil their path to carbon neutrality, setting the stage for a comprehensive sustainability-driven strategy presentation.

Led by Severine Camp, our team set out to discover the financial implications of the strategy shift. We began by dissecting our client’s production and operational value chain, bridging it to showcase initiatives targeting scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. We also benchmarked against other automotive and non-automotive operators to highlight pathways to carbon neutrality. This groundwork formed the basis of a compelling storyboard, highlighting how the pursuit of carbon neutrality strengthened our client’s competitive advantage.

Collaborating with the Head of Sustainability, we emphasised the financially material aspects of sustainability, linking carbon neutrality to the overall business model. We provided a financial framework to reassure the market regarding operational and capital expenditures, demonstrating expected returns in both qualitative and quantitative terms. The investor event served as a platform to announce the overarching principle of the future strategy; the context we provided was critical to its acceptance and success.
